Hello all!
It’s been a little while since I provided an update about Hello Again. I figured I’d check in and let you all know what’s been happening lately.
First off, the game is still in active development — as active as ever! I’ve had some slight slowdowns over the past few weeks due to increased day job workload, illness, constant weekend plans, and a ridiculous amount of travel. But despite life trying to get in the way, I’ve stayed relatively productive.
Below is a list of the big milestones I’ve hit recently:
I completely wrapped up a first pass on all of the game’s menus to make them both beautiful and controller-accessible
I finished a major back-end rework of the game’s dialogue system
I completed an important interactive set piece—the “beach gate” (screenshots below)
I added most of the puzzle content from act 1 into the game, making it about 80% playable
I added my new favorite puzzle mechanic to the game. I don’t wanna share any info about it because of spoilers, but I’m extremely proud of how it looks and feels!
I’ve started working on the game’s tutorial zone, which will take place in some mysterious tunnels underground
I’m also currently building an important location which will serve as the backbone of the game’s narrative—the “white hallway” (screenshot below)
So much art! Environment art, item art, concept art, even some tech art wizardry
I worked with a narrative consultant to polish up the game’s cast of characters and story—things are shaping up nicely!
I completed an exploratory phase with an extremely talented composer who I’m planning on bringing aboard for the game. I won’t divulge any more details until we actually get a proper deal worked out, but I’m very excited!
I’m working hard on something top secret. I hoped to be able to share it with you this month, but it’s just not ready yet. More on that in the future. Get hyped.
I’m hoping I’ll soon reach a point where I can get back to providing more regular updates on development. Perhaps I’ll even get my social media pages back in motion, as they’ve been dormant for a few months. Unfortunately, I’ve been pretty low on energy and momentum for a good while now, so I’ve had to let lower-priority items fall off my slate as I focus on keeping actual development moving forward. But if some of my behind-the-scenes schemes finally cross the finish line soon, that will hopefully bring a huge energy infusion to the project!
